Good design books? Egad!

It is common knowledge that most books and/or websites devoted to digital artistry (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) are horrible. They overuse filters, throw together garish colors, and over-manipulate everything. These are the people writing the books and the books aren’t worth the $30-50 they cost. Every once in awhile, something great pops up in this area. There are actually a number of great resources amid the plethora of eye rape. I discovered a few of these resources today and I will share one of those with you now. Big surprise, it’s European. Computer Arts is a great magazine! Pick it up in a bookstore. It is expensive, $15 per issue, but it is far better than the Idiot’s Guides, Quickstart Guides, and most of the other crap floating through the book aisles. They get actually highly talented people to contribute. People whose work will impress you. Each issue also comes with a CD full of tutorials, trial software, freeware, etc. As soon as I have $100 to spare, I am getting a subscription.
