Last Two Weekends

The last two weekends have been quite fun. Two Sundays ago, I spent 15 hours working on the TOKYOPOP Van Von Hunter videos at a small studio in Hollywood. That may not sound fun, but it was quite enjoyable, more-so than the other sets (few they may be) I have been on. The night ended with Tjalsma and I launching blood-drenched glitter into the air as the female lead pranced around in a red-assed monkey suit and the voice of the Prince of Persia stood amidst it all dressed in only boots, swords and a well-placed pop-up book. That’s good times, folks.

This past weekend I returned to the Altadena mine caves. I brought Al-Insan and Patrick along. On my prior trip, my claustrophobia forbid me enter one of the caves with a small constricting entrance. This time I defeated my fear and made my way inside the cave. As is often the case with irrational fears, after I did it, I found it wasn’t frightening at all.

Good times.

The Little Things

Tracy Yardley, the artist for Riding Shotgun contacted me by email today.
He had a lot of good things to say about the iManga I’ve been working on.
It’s by far the coolest email I’ve received in a while.
Little things like that make my job worthwhile and inspire me to do more.
Thanks, Tracy.

More Work-Related Video

Today in L.A. came through our office a week or two ago to interview the CEO and do a short package on the company.
If you want to see me sitting at my computer and scope some clips of my Riding Shotgun work, watch this video.
You’ll also get to watch a short commercial for a random industry not available to those of you outside of Los Angeles.
If you’re really lucky, it’ll be the high-pitched mattress salesman. Fun stuff.

Riding Shotgun Debuts

Back in February, I was moved to a new department at work, the TP Digital department.
My new title became “Senior Motion Graphics Artist” and I am now responsible for creating what Tokyopop calls iManga.
Trying to describe what I do to people has been difficult and confusing for all parties involved.
Well, now you can go to Myspace and see for yourself.

Starting yesterday, TOKYOPOP TV debuted on Myspace TV.
Every Tuesday for the next four weeks, you can see my work on the Riding Shotgun iManga. I was (and still am) responsible for the direction and animation of each episode.
The fantastic coloring was all handled by my assistant, Kimie.
The story is a direct adaptation of the comic by Nathaniel Bowden and Tracy Yardley.

On Thursdays, be sure to check out the Bizenghast iManga done by my coworker, Kris.
He does some really nice stuff with the imagery of the series.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, you can see 3D CG versions of I Luv Halloween and A Midnight Opera. These were created in Hong Kong by a company named Menfound.

Enjoy (or don’t if that’s your preferences, punks).

Fecal Vision

Someone left a lovely gift in the center stall of the Men’s room at the office today. It was a smallish sausage-shaped turd. The most disturbing part was that it was reddish in areas (perhaps robofish red) leading me to believe said person had a bloody expulsion. Whether this happened during stall entry or exit still remains unclear. I have a forensics team studying the positioning of the feces as we speak. I will also be sneaking DNA samples from all men in the office (and maintenance personnel–I’ve noticed a definite increase in these sorts of discoveries ever since they have become more prominent on our floor).

This serendipitous encounter had me thinking about the qualms of the blind. Public restrooms must be horrifying. Being unable to visually inspect the toilet surface, the bowl contents, spy potential floor mines and gauge occupancy are a nightmare I hope to never experience.

Good day.
